The short version
- LiveChart shows information. It doesn't tell you what to do, and it never places trades.
- You can lose money, and with leverage or short selling you can lose more than you put in.
- Signals can be late or wrong, some can appear and then change while a candle is forming, and alerts can be delayed or missed.
- The signals table on the chart is calculated on the bars shown. It is hypothetical, not a record of real trades or results.
This summary is here to help. The full text below is what applies.
01Information, not advice
IndicatorStack's LiveChart, layers, alerts, website, emails and support provide general market information for educational purposes. They don't provide financial, investment, tax, legal or trading advice, and nothing they show is a recommendation to buy, sell or hold any instrument, or a statement that a trade is suitable for you. The information is impersonal: it's the same for every user on the same ticker, interval and settings, and isn't tailored to anyone's finances, objectives or tolerance for risk.
We are not registered as an investment adviser with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission or any state, as a broker-dealer, or as a commodity trading advisor with the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and we are not members of FINRA or the National Futures Association. Using the Service doesn't create an advisory, fiduciary or client relationship.
02You can lose money
Trading stocks, options, futures, foreign exchange and cryptocurrencies involves substantial risk of loss and isn't suitable for everyone. You can lose some or all of the money you trade with. With leveraged or margined products, and with short selling, you can lose more than you deposit. Only trade with money you can afford to lose, and consider your experience, objectives and financial situation before you trade.
03How the reads can be wrong
Each layer applies fixed rules to price and volume data. It doesn't predict the future. In particular:
- Signals, labels, grades, scores and plain-English readouts are rule-based summaries, not probabilities or forecasts. A "Clean" grade or a ★ signal can still lose.
- Markets change. The conditions the rules were designed around may not hold, and no setting works in every market or on every interval.
- Results depend on your settings, the symbol, the interval and the session. Automatic profiles, such as the microcap or large-cap profile, can classify a symbol incorrectly.
- Higher-timeframe and session readings depend on how bars are built from our data provider's data, which can differ from your broker's charts.
- LiveChart is software and may contain errors.
04Signals that change while a candle is forming
By default, some signals, such as Trigger's LONG and SHORT labels, can appear before a candle closes, as soon as their conditions are met. If the candle then reverses and the conditions stop holding, the label can disappear again before the candle closes. This is the fastest read, but it means a signal you saw, or were alerted to, mid-candle may not exist on the closed candle, and the chart's history can look different from what you saw live. With Signal timing set to Bar close, labels appear only on closed candles and don't change.
Setting Signal timing to "Bar close" in the chart's Settings makes signals wait for the candle to close, so they don't change afterwards, but they arrive later. Email alerts always wait for the bar to close. Panels, readouts and grades update with every refresh until the candle closes.
05Alerts can be late or missed
Alerts come from charts open in your browser. A browser can slow or pause a background tab, a device can sleep, notifications can be blocked, and email can be delayed or filtered as spam. Alerts can arrive late, twice, or not at all, and the market can move before one reaches you. Don't rely on alerts alone to manage a position.
06Market data and volume
- LiveChart can only be as good as the data it receives from our provider. Data may be delayed, incomplete, corrected after the fact, or different from your broker's data and charts.
- The buying and selling pressure, flow, absorption and stacking reads in Undertow and Trigger are estimated from bar data (price and volume). They are not the actual order book, Level 2 or time and sales.
- Thinly traded symbols, halts and extended-hours sessions can produce sparse or misleading bars, and volume-based reads become unreliable on them.
07Levels are not orders
The stops, targets, trailing stops and exit labels the chart draws are calculations shown on a chart. The Service doesn't place, change or cancel orders with any broker. Real orders can fill at different prices because of slippage, gaps, spreads, trading halts and thin liquidity, and a level on the chart is no guarantee you can get out there. Results shown in R are calculated from chart prices, not from your fills, and don't include fees or commissions.
08Small caps, low floats and extended hours
Low-float and small-cap stocks carry extra risk. They can move tens of percent in minutes, often have wide spreads and thin liquidity, and are frequently halted for volatility (Limit Up-Limit Down pauses) or pending news. They are exposed to dilution, offerings and reverse splits, and to promotion and manipulation schemes. Short-sale restrictions and hard-to-borrow fees can apply.
In premarket and after-hours trading, liquidity is lower, spreads are wider, prices can differ sharply from the regular session, and some order types aren't available.
09Options and leverage
If you trade options or use margin on the moves the chart describes, small price changes can produce large losses. Options can lose their entire value and carry additional risks from time decay and changes in volatility, and margin can require you to deposit more money at short notice.
10Illustrations, hypothetical and past performance
The signals table under the chart, and any results it shows in R, are calculated by applying the rules to the bars shown, entering and exiting at chart prices. They are hypothetical. The charts, panels and examples on our website are illustrations. None of them are records of actual trades, of any real account, or of results any user has achieved, and they are not a prediction of what you will see.
Hypothetical or simulated performance results have certain limitations. Unlike an actual performance record, simulated results do not represent actual trading. Also, since the trades have not been executed, the results may have under- or over-compensated for the impact, if any, of certain market factors, such as lack of liquidity. Simulated trading programs in general are also subject to the fact that they are designed with the benefit of hindsight. No representation is being made that any account will or is likely to achieve profit or losses similar to those shown.
Past performance, whether actual or simulated, is not indicative of future results.
11Comments from traders
Comments from traders shown on our website describe individual experiences with IndicatorStack. They may not be representative of other users' experiences, they are not a guarantee of future performance or success, and they are not a recommendation of any trade or strategy.
